From 1947-1985, the prime sandy soils of the area supported a thriving tobacco farm. In the mid-1970's, Ernie Racz initiated viability experiments on various peanut seed types. He discovered that the Valencia peanut was well suited to the light sandy soils and began growing commercially in 1982. Today, the family farm contains an entire peanut manufacturing, wholesale and retail operation.
